UEFA opened a disciplinary case against Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger on Wednesday for comments about the referee after his team's Champions League elimination by AC Milan.
UEFA said Wenger will face a charge of improper conduct at a hearing to be arranged later. Its disciplinary panel's next scheduled meeting is March 29.
Wenger is facing his third touchline ban from UEFA in the past year.
The French coach accused Slovenian referee Damir Skomina of awarding Milan too many free kicks in Arsenal's 3-0 win on Tuesday.
Wenger also was seen on television in heated discussions with Skomina's assistants after the final whistle.
Arsenal was eliminated after losing the first leg of the last-16 tie 4-0 in Italy.
Wenger was found guilty of a similar UEFA charge after Arsenal was knocked out by Barcelona at the same stage of last year's competition.
Then, he argued angrily with Swiss referee Massimo Busacca who had sent off Robin van Persie during a 3-1 defeat in Spain.
Wenger served his ban during this season's playoff round first-leg match against Udinese, but incurred a further ban for breaking rules by communicating with Arsenal's coaches from his seat in the grandstand.
